What we collect
For adult (parent) accounts: your name, email address, and a hashed password. For child accounts: a display name and username chosen by the parent, a hashed password, and no email address. For everyone: Morse practice data - attempts, scores, and key-timing rhythm measurements - so the app can track learning progress. Standard server logs (IP address, request time) are kept briefly for security and debugging.
Children's accounts (COPPA)
Child accounts can only be created by a parent or legal guardian from their own account, and creation requires the parent to check a consent statement, which we record with a timestamp. We collect no email address, phone number, or other contact information from children - only the username and display name the parent chose and the child's practice data. Parents can review their children's activity, change their passwords, pause their accounts, or ask us to delete their data entirely at any time. We do not condition a child's use of the service on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary.
What we do NOT do
No advertising, no analytics trackers, no selling or sharing of data with third parties, no marketing email. The only emails we send are the ones you trigger: account verification and password resets (delivered via Amazon SES).
Where data lives
Data is stored on a server and backups hosted with Amazon Web Services in the United States. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. The site is served over HTTPS.
Retention and deletion
Practice data is kept while the account exists so progress works. To delete an account and its data - yours or a child's - email scott@moelling.net from the account's parent email and we will remove it within 30 days. Backups age out on a rolling schedule after deletion.
Cookies
One session cookie, used only to keep you logged in and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. No tracking cookies.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the date above changes with it, and material changes affecting children's data will require fresh parent consent. Questions or requests: scott@moelling.net.
